Our history
Founding of Carl Dillenius Bijouterie
Growth and change in the City of Gold
Following the death of the founders, the authorised signatories Emil Beck and Friedrich Becker took over the business in 1909. The company established a firm foothold in Pforzheim’s jewellery industry and made a name for itself through quality and precision. In 1912, the business expanded and moved to its current premises at 65 Westliche Karl-Friedrich-Straße. The Second World War marked a profound turning point in the company’s history. On the evening of 23 February 1945, shortly before the end of the war, Emil Beck tragically lost his life when the company building was destroyed. Friedrich Becker had already passed away on 1 November 1940.
Reconstruction and a fresh start
Following the destruction caused by the war, the reconstruction of the company began under Walter and Reinhard Beck, the sons of Emil Beck – driven by a commitment to craftsmanship and a renewed entrepreneurial spirit. On 10 September 1949, the topping-out ceremony for the first phase of the new building at the company’s current headquarters took place.
Tradition meets innovation
Udo Emil Beck led the company into a new era from 1964 onwards. Under his leadership, the product range was steadily expanded and production modernised, without losing its traditional character. In 1997, a management buy-out (MBO) was carried out by R. Bauer, U. Beck and K.-H. Trimpler, who together secured the company’s future.
Continuity and development
The arrival of Johannes Giek in 2001 as the successor to K.-H. Trimpler marked the start of a period of steady growth. Following the death of R. Bauer in 2006, Udo G. Beck and Johannes Giek successfully continued to lead the company. Another important step towards strengthening the portfolio and expertise was the integration of renowned collections: in 2009, those of Guthmann & Wittenauer Schmuck GmbH, and in 2013, those of Gebrüder Wolf.
In 2016, the company celebrated the 250th anniversary of the ‘Goldstadt’ (City of Gold) together with the city of Pforzheim – a special highlight in our long-standing tradition.
